The client, a scientist, wanted a workspace that felt both functional and inspiring — a basement office that could support everyday productivity while also reflecting personal achievements and passions. The goal was to turn an otherwise plain basement into a motivational hub, where design and purpose worked hand in hand.
Basements can often feel dark, closed off, and uninspiring. The space needed to be reimagined to bring in light, character, and flow, while also making sure every detail was highly functional for daily use.
We built the design around a standing desk with an ergonomic chair, giving the client flexibility for long working hours. Along the wall, an IKEA Kallax unit was styled with both practical storage and personal elements. The lower row featured modern rattan-woven baskets for concealed storage, while the second row included functional items (file holders, headphones, and books) alongside framed personal pictures for balance.
To reflect the client’s profession, we placed a levitating globe on top of the Kallax — a unique statement piece that instantly speaks to their identity as a scientist. A printer was also seamlessly integrated into the unit, keeping the setup clean yet practical.
Above the Kallax sits a basement window. We styled the windowsill with plants and a motivational card, adding both greenery and positivity.
The walls were carefully curated to keep the space motivational and personal. On one side, floating shelves hold an hourglass placed atop a stack of books, blending décor with meaning. On the other, framed motivational quotes and the client’s PhD degree were displayed together — a reminder of past achievements and future goals. To further inspire focus, a neon “Humble Hustle” sign was mounted on the panels, becoming both a design feature and a motivational anchor
